When it comes to childcare in the Freising district, parents would like to see more options close to where they live.

And the staff feels badly paid.

Freising

– What about child day care in the district of Freising? Are there sufficient crèche, day-care and after-school places? How happy are the parents? What are the children saying? And how do carriers and staff assess the situation? questions upon questions. There were answers in the youth welfare committee from Daniela Mertl, who presented the results of the new youth welfare planning for this area.

There are 130 childcare facilities with 9754 places in the district, plus 380 places in child day care, as well as lunchtime care in 20 municipalities, open all-day offers in six and tied all-day classes in four municipalities - that's the current state of affairs.

The conclusion, as Mertl drew it: The offer is diverse for all age groups, especially in the area of school child care, an increasing need for care is to be expected.

77 percent of the children feel good

As Mertl reported, she distributed questionnaires to parents, children, carriers and educators and evaluated the answers.

Some results: The greatest dissatisfaction prevails among the parents of the under-three-year-olds (28 percent), parents would like care close to where they live and more flexibility.

And the children?

77 percent stated that they liked to go to after-school care or lunchtime care.

Playing, especially in the garden, is very popular.

When educators "scream" and the corona virus - children don't like either of them at all.

Conclusion: Most of the children looked after felt comfortable in the facilities, more attention should be paid to the garden design as a play area.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

And the staff?

Many like their job, but not the pay

Above all, the survey of the providers revealed what was already known: it is difficult to find staff.

A third of the vacancies are vacant for more than three months.

Another important finding: The new training opportunities for educators and nannies such as Optiprax and the assistant model are “still relatively unknown” and are often viewed critically, says Mertl.

And the staff?

70 percent stated that they were satisfied with their working hours, 67 percent would like better pay, and 45 percent would like a higher staffing ratio.

Conclusion from the staff survey: The greatest dissatisfaction is among staff in the crèche area, many perceive inclusion as a burden, and the induction is often unsatisfactory.

Conclusion: crèche places must be expanded

All of this would result in the following challenges for the district, Mertl listed: a further expansion of crèche places, a fight against the shortage of skilled workers, and also more information for parents, some of whom feel that they are not sufficiently informed.

Mertl had already thought about measures for this: there is a need for more training and further education of specialists.

A "social fair" explicitly for social professions for recruitment and better public presentation would also be possible.

Mertl was also able to report that intensive work is being done on the topic of inclusion in the form of a bachelor thesis.
