Indian authorities announced today the death of the famous singer Lata Mangeshkar, one of the country's biggest cultural icons, at the age of 92.
The Indian News Agency (Trust of India) spoke of the end of an era and a void that could not be filled after the death of Mangeshkar, nicknamed the Nightingale of India, who was taken to hospital in Mumbai on the eighth of last month after she was diagnosed with the Corona virus.
Indian President Ram Nath Kovind mourned the late singer, saying, "The passing of Lata Mangeshkar caused misery to millions in India and the world," stressing that "successive generations have found in their wide range of songs that present the essence and beauty of India as an expression of their inner feelings."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "The death of this legendary singer leaves a void that cannot be filled.. She will be remembered by future generations as a champion of Indian culture.. Her brave voice had an unparalleled ability to charm people."
Mangeshkar was also nicknamed the Voice of India and the Queen of Singing in India. She started her singing career in 1942 when she was 13 years old and sang more than 25,000 songs in various Indian languages and won many awards, including (Bharat Ratna), the highest civilian honor in India, as well as the Padma Bhushan award. and Padma Vibhushan.
