From August 1 to 16, 1936, the Summer Olympics in Berlin were used for Nazi propaganda, magnifying the power of the totalitarian state and the ideology claiming the superiority of the Aryan race. Attributed to the Weimar Republic in 1931 to mark the reintegration of Germany into the community of nations, the Berlin Games thus enabled Hitler to consolidate his legitimacy with the Germans and in the world. They gave the Third Reich the perfectly misleading image of a peaceful, tolerant and modern nation, masking state racism as forced rearmament.
