The Syrian Association of Oncologists, in cooperation with the Aleppo branch of the Medical Syndicate, held an awareness seminar entitled “Cervical Cancer” at the headquarters of the Medical Syndicate in Aleppo, as part of the activities of the Gulf Arab Cancer Week.

The symposium discussed the epidemiology of cancer, risk factors for infection, the epidemiology of cervical cancer, early detection, cervical smear classification, principles of treatment, prevention and HPV vaccines.

Dr. Safwan Zuaiter, head of the Aleppo Physicians Syndicate, said in a statement to SANA that scientific conferences and symposiums are the best way to exchange information and experiences and be informed of the latest scientific developments to increase doctors' theoretical and scientific expertise and exchange information.

Dr. Maha Manashi, President of the Syrian Association of Oncologists, indicated that the Arab Gulf Cancer Awareness Week is a unified Arab activity that aims to deliver a societal and humanitarian message about the importance of awareness, prevention and early detection of the disease, because tumors constitute the most common non-communicable pandemic in the world, especially that some of them are curable. prevention through awareness, education and early detection programmes.

Dr. Muhammad Tamouh Amraya, a member of the Board of Directors of the Syrian Association of Oncologists, indicated that cervical cancer is one of the tumors that can be prevented at the primary or secondary levels through early detection programs that will be more widely circulated, in addition to primary pre-cancer prevention strategies, awareness programs and holding seminars. to doctors and transfer it to all segments of society in a way that contributes to reducing its incidence.

The lecturer and Vice-President of the Syrian Association of Oncologists, Dr. Moans Abu Mansour, talked about the epidemiology and causes of cancer, the latest statistics affected in the world, the death rate, how to prevent it, the importance of early detection, and the need to conduct periodic examinations on an ongoing basis to raise awareness.

Syria participated for the first time in the Arab Gulf Cancer Awareness Week, which started at the beginning of this month and will continue until the seventh of it, by holding many cultural awareness activities and free early detection campaigns for breast, cervical and prostate cancers in various governorates.
