The ultra-Orthodox boycott of blood donations: B'Tselem contacted the Minister of Health Israel today

Against the background of the continued refusal of the ultra-Orthodox yeshivas to donate blood as long as the form is not changed back to "Mother and Father", MDA issued an urgent call for the public to come and donate • B'Tselem CEO Shai Glick: The donations, so that MDA can raise as it pleases "

The blood donation boycott affair, in which ultra-Orthodox yeshivas refuse to donate blood to MDA because the forms do not include the words "father and mother," continues to stir up a storm.

MDA issued a call today (Sunday) to come and donate urgently, due to a severe shortage of blood.

B'Tselem today addressed Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz with a request to allow the ultra-Orthodox rescue organizations to donate blood, thus ending the saga.

As you may recall, a few months ago MDA decided to change the forms with which blood is donated from "father and mother" to "parent 1 and parent 2".

As a result, the ultra-Orthodox yeshivot decided to stop donating blood. In response, MDA folded and decided to completely remove the parents' clause, but the protesters refuse to stop the boycott until the forms are returned in their original format.

In his letter, the organization's director general, Shai Glick, called on Horowitz to make his voice heard and express his position on the matter, along with finding a satisfactory solution:

Only this week, a law was passed in the Knesset that unites all emergency centers, which indicates that the rescue organization is a national organization that operates to strict standards. "

Glick added that "this will solve all the problems. MDA will be able to donate as it pleases, while yeshiva students and those who are interested will be able to donate through the ultra-Orthodox rescue organizations."

"Every moment such a solution is not implemented, it endangers the lives of the citizens of the State of Israel."

At the same time, although this is an interim solution that could resolve the crisis, it is not at all clear that it will be possible physically, since the Rescue Union is apparently not interested in dealing with the issue at the moment.

At the same time, opening the blood market to competition can bring additional factors to an area in which to this day MDA has a monopoly.
