Three months before the state elections, the North Rhine-Westphalian CDU has set the course for its top candidate, Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst.
On Monday evening, the state executive in Düsseldorf unanimously decided to nominate the CDU state leader as number one on the candidate list for the election on May 15, as the NRW-CDU confirmed.
250 delegates will vote on the list on March 19.

The list of candidates is drawn if a party is entitled to more seats in the state parliament than it has won direct mandates or if a member of the state parliament resigns and a successor can therefore move into parliament.
In several previous state elections, the list hardly played a role for the NRW-CDU.
