Russia's First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, stressed that today many UN Security Council sanctions regimes do not correspond to the actual situation.
"The international sanctions must reflect the situation on the ground and serve the political process, and the sanctions regimes must be regularly reviewed and modified until they are completely abolished," RIA Novosti news agency quoted Polyansky as saying at a meeting of the UN Security Council today.
"According to our assessments, many of the current Security Council sanctions regimes no longer correspond to the actual situation and impede the plans of national governments in the field of state-building as well as social and economic development," Polyansky stressed.
"Moscow is urging that the purposeful and flexible nature of the UN Security Council's restrictions be fixed," he added.
