Since September 2015, Queen Elizabeth II has been the longest reigning monarch in Great Britain's history.

Now she can celebrate 70 years on the throne.

Sandringham – The 95-year-old monarch was in Sandringham, the country estate in Norfolk, at the start of the big event.

There she traditionally spends the day of her accession to commemorate the death of her father, who made her regent at the age of 25.

For the first time without her husband Prince Philip (99, † 2021), the Queen quietly celebrated her platinum anniversary, which was surrounded by highlights.

Elizabeth II wore a lime green summery tweed shift dress by Angela Kelly, adorned with two diamond ivy leaf clasps given to her daughter by the Queen Mother for her 21st birthday.

After all, no regent has ever done what Queen Elizabeth did.

She has been the longest-reigning monarch in Britain's history since September 2015, when she surpassed her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria (81, † 1901), who reigned 63 years and 216 days.
