The Russian company Energia has registered a new patent for a method that helps speed up the arrival of vehicles to the International Space Station.
"Our company was able to register a new patent, which has been included in the Russian State Invention Register, for a method that helps deliver vehicles to the space station after performing one orbit around the Earth," said Raphael Mortazin, head of the company's space ballistics department, as saying.
Mortazin explained that with the new method, the vehicles will be able to reach the International Space Station within about two hours after separating from the third stage of the rocket in space to revolve one revolution around the Earth and in an orbit parallel to the station's orbit, and then the crew of the vehicle will operate the engines in it to deviate and dock with the station.
In 2019, Energia had announced that its experts were working on developing a mechanism for vehicles to reach the station via a single orbit plan, and had tested this mechanism with Russian vehicles over the next three years.
