A medal of the French Resistance is created, intended to recognize the remarkable acts of faith and courage which, in France, in the Empire and abroad, will have contributed to the resistance of the French people against the enemy and against their accomplices since June 18, 1940.
” On February 9, 1943, General de Gaulle created one of the only two decorations of Free France (after the Cross of Liberation).
It designates the adversary: the occupier and his collaborators in Vichy and elsewhere.
And also symbolically unites, under the auspices of Gaull, the interior Resistance and Free France.
Stamped with the cross of Lorraine, the decoration bears the motto "Patria non immemor", "the fatherland does not forget".
Eight decades later, the homeland has not forgotten.
But, at a time when the last representatives of the "shadow people" are disappearing, the memory must be maintained more than ever.
There are some 65,123 medals awarded since 1943 (including 5,637 to women) by the National Commission…
