Ana Torroja is now officially Marchioness.
The singer has inherited the title of nobility from her father, the engineer José Antonio Torroja Cavanillas, who died in July 2021, as she had formally requested last November.
The Official State Gazette has published this Tuesday the order of the Ministry of Justice ordering the issuance, "without prejudice to a third party with the best right", the Royal Letter of Succession as Marchioness of Torroja in favor of the singer Ana Torroja Fungairiño.

The order published by the BOE says verbatim: "In accordance with the provisions of the Royal Decree of May 27, 1912, this Ministry, on behalf of His Majesty the King, has seen fit to provide that, upon payment of the corresponding tax, issue, without prejudice to a third party with the best right, Royal Letter of Succession as Marchioness of Torroja, in favor of Doña Ana Torroja Fungairiño, due to the death of her father, Don José Antonio Torroja Cavanillas”.
The 62-year-old artist is the eldest of six siblings born to the marriage of her father and the nurse María del Carmen Fungairiño Bringas, who died in 1985.

Before making the official request, Torroja had already made public his intention to win the title.
“My grandfather was given the marquisate for his work and then my father inherited it.
And now I think he pays himself to inherit the title, ”explained the former member of Mecano in an interview with

, just a few days before the subsequent death of her father.
Already then, Torroja stated that when the time came he would surely request the title.
"I didn't care a little bit, but my father is excited for me to continue, so we will surely do the paperwork," she replied.
The Marquisate of Torroja was granted on October 1, 1961 by dictator Francisco Franco to the singer's paternal grandfather, Eduardo Torroja Miret, a civil engineer and "author of numerous and valuable scientific works who devoted his life to research, teaching and carrying out very important public works”, as reflected in the decree published at the time in the BOE.
