Peter Thiel will leave Meta.
Instead, he wants to devote himself to the upcoming midterm elections – and support Donald Trump.
San Francisco – Investor Peter Thiel is resigning from the board of directors of Facebook parent company Meta.
Meta announced on Monday (02/07/2022) that Thiel, who has been a member of the committee since 2005, will no longer stand as a candidate.
It is expected that he will leave the board after the shareholders' meeting in May.
Thiel joined Facebook's board of directors in 2005.
Among other things, Thiel is a major donor to the Republican Party in the USA*.
According to information from the New York Times, he now wants to focus on supporting Donald Trump* allies during the midterm elections in November*.
To that end, Thiel recently donated $10 million to the Senate campaigns of Republican* Blake Masters, Arizona candidate, and Ohio candidate JD Vance.
Donations for Donald Trump: Peter Thiel leaves Facebook
Thiel has already donated millions of dollars to Donald Trump's election campaign in the past.
He also worked on Trump's transition team.
Critics suspect that the proximity to Thiel is one of the reasons why some Facebook posts by Donald Trump that violated the guidelines were not removed.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said he was "deeply grateful for everything" Thiel had done for the company.
"Peter is a truly original thinker who takes your toughest problems to the table and gets unique suggestions," Zuckerberg said in a statement.

Thiel's departure comes at a difficult time for Meta.
The company's share price recently plummeted after disappointing quarterly figures - within hours, around $200 billion in market value was destroyed.
Meta is also struggling with privacy scandals and the allegedly damaging effects of its business model on society around the world.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump scored a legal own goal* during a speech.
He spoke about the "biggest protests the country has ever seen."
