The Lenggrieser Turnverein wants to build four more beach volleyball courts on the former barracks sports field.

The volleyball players are now collecting money for this.

Lenggries – Even if Lenggries is not directly on the sea – Christian Keiler is still often on the beach.

Because he is head of the volleyball department at TV Lenggries.

And at the moment the volleyball players in Lenggries, the "Foxes", have four beach volleyball fields.

Since Lenggries has become "a magnet for young people from the district who want to play volleyball" (Keiler), the four places are no longer enough.

The facility at the former Prinz Heinrich barracks is therefore to be doubled from four to eight places (we reported).

Association collects donations on the Internet

And that costs money.

Overall, according to Keiler, the costs will add up to around 65,000 euros.

A part of this is now to be collected through so-called “crowdfunding”.

The association has been collecting donations online for about two weeks now.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Bad Tölz newsletter.

"Beach volleyball is always only played two against two, and of course we can't start training until the afternoon, around 4 p.m., when the coaches and members come from work and school," explains Keiler.

You can then train until it gets dark.

"The seats fill up quickly." In winter, volleyball is practiced indoors.

Lenggries has blossomed into a beach volleyball stronghold

In recent years, Lenggries has developed into a true beach volleyball stronghold.

According to Keiler, this is due to the fact that it is associated with "summer, sun, vacation and fun".

On the other hand, it is also a sport that can be implemented well in Corona times: outdoors, only two people per team on the pitch, so that the distances can be well maintained and no contact sport.

The division now has 240 members.

You can start from the age of eight.

"There are far more girls who play volleyball, since the boys often get stuck in soccer very early on," says the head of department.

Hosting the German Youth Championship is one goal

An expansion of the places is also necessary because the goal is to organize competitions, such as a German championship for youth, in Lenggries.

"The Bavarian youth championships will also take place here, there are 32 teams - we need the places for that," says Keiler.

A high cost factor for the expansion is above all the sand.

600 tons that would be needed cost around 36,000 euros.

The special sand comes from Hirschau in the district of Amberg-Sulzbach.

"The sand has to be especially suitable for beaching, it mustn't get too hot in summer, otherwise you wouldn't be able to walk on it barefoot," says Keiler.

With good care, however, you can play on it for many years.

Any donation is welcome to the association

All volley foxes meet twice a year for this.

In the spring, to make the facility fit again and to free the sand of everything that doesn't belong in it.

And in the fall to winterize the pitches.

In addition, there are four new grid systems that will cost around 12,000 euros.

A small part of the costs of the entire project – at least 10,000 euros – is now to be collected through the fundraising campaign on the Internet.

"Of course, every donation is welcome, even very small amounts," emphasizes Keiler.

Lenggrieser building committee gave the green light in October

As reported, the expansion of the beach volleyball facility was the subject of a meeting of the building committee in Lenggries in October.

The committee gave the club the green light to expand.

An application had been made to add four additional spaces, each measuring 16 by 8 metres.

"From my point of view, this can be approved under certain conditions," said the third mayor Günter Haubner (FWG), who chaired the meeting.

The rest of the committee felt the same way - and agreed.

One of the conditions is that you can only walk to the former barracks sports field and not drive behind.

The old tartan surface has to make way for the new beach volleyball courts.

Depending on how the area develops, the pitches may need to be relocated

Since it is also not yet clear what is to be developed in the future on the large barracks areas that belong to the municipality, it may be that the places will have to be relocated at some point.

Christian Keiler is also aware of this.

“We accept the risk,” he says.

With the last expansion from two to four places in 2017, the association was pleased to receive support from the two foundations that the community manages.

At that time it was around 12,000 euros, with investment costs of around 100,000 euros – and a lot of personal work.

In addition to the squares, the path to the area was also redesigned at the time, and there was also a new fence.

You can donate until March 27th on the Füchse Lenggries website at https://www.volley-fuechse.de/
