- "The riddle in the Sollner sky": This was the headline of our newspaper a few days ago and showed a photo that a reader had sent to the editors.

Strangely shaped white patterns could be seen in the afternoon sky*, and the reader wondered: Was a pilot drunk here?

The German weather service stated that an "extraordinary meteorological cause" could be ruled out, and the German air traffic control (DFS) referred to military flights.

When asked by our newspaper, the Bundeswehr now gave precise information.

Accordingly, Solln * is "about 22 kilometers east of the temporarily reserved training airspace (Temporary Reserved Airspace) TRA Allgäu," said a spokesman for the Bundeswehr Aviation Office.

Background: For some maneuvers, the pilots need a lot of space - they are therefore given certain parts of the airspace for the duration of the exercise.

The evaluation of the radar data from January 27 - the day the photo was taken - shows two Bundeswehr Eurofighter fighter jets from 3:07 p.m. to 4:20 p.m.

"The two aircraft from Tactical Air Force Squadron 74 flew practice flights within the TRA Allgäu." They left vapor trails behind - visible from Munich*.

To reassure Sollner: "According to the data available to us, the practice flight operations took place in compliance with flight operations regulations.

No military flight operations took place directly over the town of Munich-Solln.”
