The omicron wave of the coronavirus will probably not overwhelm the hospitals in Lower Saxony.
The peak of the wave comes at the end of February.
Hanover – The peak of the omicron wave in Lower Saxony will not lead to an overload of the hospitals according to the assessment of the politicians in Hanover.
Based on projections by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), a peak of up to 300 intensive care patients can be expected in the country in the next two weeks, while the hospitalization incidence could rise from the current 11 to up to 17, explained the head of the Corona crisis team, Heiger Scholz, on Tuesday in Hanover during the staff's weekly press conference.
Omicron wave in Lower Saxony: a high of up to 300 intensive care patients is expected in the state
That means a lot of tension for the hospitals, but it is manageable.
In mid-April 2021, more than 320 Covid patients in the country had to be treated in intensive care.
The hospitalization incidence is currently the decisive factor for the corona measures.
It indicates how many Covid 19 patients were admitted to the hospitals within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants.
These may also include people with a positive corona test who have another main illness.
These must also be isolated and treated under high protection requirements.
Omicron wave in Lower Saxony: 996 adults with Covid-19 in the hospital, 136 in intensive care units
There are currently 996 adults hospitalized with Covid-19, including 136 in intensive care units.
There are also 37 children, two of whom are being treated in intensive care and ventilated.
During the press conference, government spokeswoman Anke Pörksen discussed possible easing.
These are responsible once the peak of the omicron wave has been overcome.
According to the head of the crisis team, Heiger Scholz, this should be the case at the end of February.
Lower Saxony will then slowly relax, according to Pörksen.
"With the new regulation, we will hopefully be able to slowly move to a gradual relaxation regime." The current Corona regulation in Lower Saxony is valid until February 23, 2022. * kreiszeitung.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
