Syria calls at the end of the (FAO) conference to confront climate challenges and cross-border epidemics

Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Mohamed Hassan Qatna, called for facing climatic challenges and cross-border epidemics, whether agricultural or animal.

This came in a speech delivered by Minister Qatna in Baghdad this evening during the closing ministerial dialogue session of the 36th Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, in the presence of representatives of the participating countries. Food security, which has become the biggest challenge for the next stage.

In turn, the Iraqi Minister of Agriculture, Eng. Muhammad Al-Khafaji, who chaired the session, drew attention to the need to proceed with work and unify the efforts of the FAO to support the agricultural sector to overcome the scarcity of water resources and climate change and to develop appropriate solutions to them, in addition to increasing support and production by innovating better, greener and more capable food and agricultural systems Resilience to achieve the sustainable development goals.

According to a statement issued by the closing session, the SANA reporter in Baghdad received a copy of it. The conference issued several recommendations, including looking into the possibility of establishing strategic food reserves sufficient for a period of three months and adopting integrated policies in order to secure favorable conditions for investment in the agricultural and food sector and support countries to develop regional plans to develop Agricultural and food systems to be compatible with national aspirations and visions and the strategic framework of the FAO and to intensify efforts to address widening disparities and spatial, social and economic inequalities.

The Ministers of Agriculture in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Jordan, Muhammad Hassan Qatna, Muhammad Al-Khafaji, Abbas Al-Hajj Hassan and Khaled Al-Hanaifat, discussed, during a four-way meeting they held earlier today, the subject of concluding a memorandum of understanding between the four countries in all agricultural fields.

A source in the media department of the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture told SANA reporter that the four ministers stressed, during their discussions, the importance of achieving agricultural integration between their countries, in order to develop the movement of exchanging agricultural and animal products, production requirements, fertilizers and veterinary aspects, in addition to exchanging experiences and consultations, adding that the ministers recommended the necessity of taking agricultural agendas and the comparative advantage in Production for each country in mind while taking into account the protection of the local product.

The work of the 36th session of the Regional Conference for the Near East of the "FAO" started yesterday with the participation of Syria in Baghdad under the slogan "Recovery and Resuming Employment".
