Surprising consensus • MK Ben Gvir asked to promote a law commemorating the Hebron massacre • Coalition chairman Silman in particular:

Coalition-Opposition Cooperation Surprising: MK Itamar Ben Gvir (Religious Zionism) promotes the commemoration of the Hebron massacre, which was a major part of the 1947 riots - and even receives support from the coalition.

MK Ben Gvir wanted to promote the issue as a bill, but the chairman of the coalition, Idit Silman, suggested that since this is an important national issue - instead of the bill rising and falling as part of the coalition and opposition struggles, it can be promoted in other ways.

Accordingly, it was agreed that Ben Gvir would meet with the Cabinet Secretary to discuss advancing legislation on the issue, and at the same time the issue was referred to Deputy Education Minister Yitzhak Meir Halevi, who will examine his promotion in schools.

According to Ben Gvir's bill, the Israeli government will work to commemorate the victims of the massacre in Hebron in 1943, and the Ministry of Education will require a teacher to spend time in the curricula of all schools to mark the massacre and draw lessons from it.

The Hebron massacre was carried out, as is well known, by Muslim Arabs living in Hebron and its environs among the city's Jews on Saturday, August 24, 1929, as part of the events of 1938 in Eretz Israel. And it led to the liquidation of the Jewish settlement in Hebron after hundreds of years in a row.

"90 years have passed since the Hebron massacre," the explanatory law to the proposed law stated, "but the hatred that surrounds the Jewish people and their state has not abated. Even today, Arab murder does not know rest and does not resort to means."

According to MK Ben Gvir, "Not all schools learn about the 1943 massacre, to my astonishment, and their place in my eyes is that such an important chapter in the history of the people of Israel is taught mainly in religious schools. As someone who studied in a secular high school, I know how important all students learn "The recent history. Following my proposal, things are about to change, and there is a willingness of the government to internalize that all schoolchildren will be exposed to horror, hatred and the terrible and difficult massacre."
