It is understood that there were 4 online romance scams involving Tinder in Kwai Tsing Police District last year. The victims were in their early 30s to early 40s, including a male renovation worker who lost about 50,000 yuan, a female doctor and a female salesperson. Both lost about 10,000 yuan, and a female clerk lost more than 600,000 yuan.

According to reports, the four scams are of similar techniques.

The victim met a netizen of the opposite sex who claimed to be from Europe and was doing business through Tinder. After talking very much, he turned to WhatsApp to get to know more deeply. Later, the scammer falsely claimed that the business was in difficulty and asked the victim for money. The victim made an online transfer or iTunes adds value, and after the victim has followed the instructions, the scammer will not know where to go.

Unlike "Tinder Fraud King", the victim and the scammer never meet in the process.

The four victims reported to the police after realizing they had been deceived. The case was followed up by the Kwai Tsing Police District. No arrests have been made so far.

In 2021, Kwai Tsing Police District received a total of 82 cases of online romance scams.
