92-year-old Karla Spagerer will be the oldest member of the Federal Assembly in the Federal Presidential election.

She has a clear opinion on the candidates.

Mannheim – It is an important decision for Germany's democracy: the federal presidential election*.

On February 13, 2022, a panel will decide who should hold the office of head of state.

Among others, Frank-Walter Steinmeier* (SPD) is up for election.

Karla Spagerer, eyewitness to the Nazi era, will take part in the election of the Federal President as the oldest member of the Federal Assembly*.

The joy of the 92-year-olds was great when the conference office of the Bundestag of the SPD * informed her of the message.

"The spit stayed away from me, that doesn't happen to me often," the convinced social democrat from the working-class district of Mannheim told the German Press Agency (dpa).

By attending the Federal Assembly, the SPD apparently wanted to acknowledge the fact that Spagerer, at her age, still attended schools and reported there on the horrors of the Nazi era.

In addition to the members of the Bundestag, the Federal Assembly also includes delegates from the 16 state parliaments.

Karla Spagerer said that she only got involved in politics after the death of her husband six years ago.

She was married to Walter Spagerer for 68 years, who was involved with IG Metall, the SPD and the Waldhof Mannheim football club.

The motivation for her late intervention was the strengthening of the AfD*, according to the NS eyewitness.

She wanted to fight against that.

The 92-year-old has a clear stance on the current top politicians – including the current Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

She wants to vote for the SPD politician.

"This is a very pleasant man," Spagerer told dpa.

She finds it outrageous that the CDU member* Max Otte is running as an AfD candidate.

"The CDU would have to throw him out on edge," warned the election woman.

As a consequence of the AfD candidacy, the Union had withdrawn Otte's membership rights and initiated a procedure for his exclusion from the party.

The chairman of the Union, Friedrich Merz, only gave a brief statement on Otte during a press conference.

He stressed that politicians no longer played a role for the party.

Karla Spagerer also has an opinion on Chancellor Olaf Scholz* (SPD).

She advocates that he "stays calm and is not so excited." The fact that former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder (SPD), on the other hand, interferes in the Ukraine conflict with Russia *, is very annoying to her.

"He should keep his mouth shut, he's had his time," criticized the 92-year-old.
