How heartless: A stranger abandoned nine guinea pigs in a small transport box.
Overnight they stood in front of the fence of the Tölz animal shelter.
Bad Tölz –
The nine guinea pigs that Hans Fichtner, head of the Tölz animal shelter, discovered on Monday morning in front of the facility were completely soaked.
Sometime during the night, an irresponsible pet owner had left her – crammed together in a transport box – in front of the fence of the animal shelter.
"The box was completely snowed in," says Fichtner.

When he brought the newspaper in at 6 a.m., he probably overlooked the box in the dark.
It wasn't until he went outside to clear the snow that he came across the box.
But since there was no snow underneath, he assumes that the poor little animals stood in the cold all night – it stormed and snowed.

Despite the hardships, the guinea pigs are "squeaky happy"
The fact that the nine guinea pigs survived the whole thing unscathed is amazing.
"The animals are usually very sensitive because they are raised in apartments," says Fichtner.
"But they're actually hilarious."
Animals are in good hands
There were six males and three females in the box.
They have now found a temporary home at the shelter.
Anyone who would like to adopt one can contact the animal protection association (0 80 41/83 13).
At the moment, only the male animals are being given away, as the females could be expecting offspring at the moment.
"We'll just have to wait and see," says Fichtner.
