Convoy of freedom in France: what are the demands?

2022-02-09T19:23:08.885Z

FOCUS - Like the Canadians, several vehicles set off from all over France to reach the capital. If their goal is to block Paris, their demands are more heterogeneous.

This Wednesday, several hundred vehicles set off from all over France to reach Paris.

“A freedom convoy”

, like the mobilizations in Canada, to “

block the capital

”.

If the claims across the Atlantic revolve around sanitary measures, which are particularly strict, they go beyond in France, making them a little more confused.

Antivax, antipass, "

yellow vests

", Mélenchonist or pro-Zemmour, the heterogeneous movement has very diverse demands.

Lifting of health restrictions

First of all, and like the mobilization in Ottawa, the “

freedom convoy

” finds its origin above all in a rejection of sanitary measures against Covid-19.

The vaccine pass is then concerned, which should however end by the end of March or the beginning of April, according to the declarations of Gabriel Attal, but also the masks and of course the vaccines.

According to the organizers of the movement, the unlocking of the capital will be done on condition of lifting “

all health restrictions, state of emergency, and health defense advice

”.

Against energy taxes

Some figures of "

yellow vests

" also supported the convoy, specifying however that they were not part of the organization.

Maxime Nicolle, for example, said in a Facebook live that he did not want to label the mobilization.

For him, the demands are the same as those put forward three years ago.

We are demonstrating against energy taxes, we are literally dying

,” he says on Facebook.

The increase in the various increases in the price of energies, such as gasoline, gas or electricity are particularly singled out.

On the Facebook and Telegram groups, the organizers are asking for a "

detaxation of gasoline beyond a cost to be fixed as long as the alternatives are not accessible to all

".

Jérôme Rodrigues, symbol of

"yellow vests"

, boasts, "

a convoy of freedom and better living for all citizens

".

According to him, this movement would come from "

80% of the "yellow vests"

".

Salary demands

In addition to complaints about health measures and those about rising energy prices, wage issues are also highlighted.

Protesters and organizers demand fair wages for all workers.

The latter more particularly want "

an immediate reinstatement of all suspended workers with compensation for lost wages

", as well as "

the abolition of the CSG on wage shares under the minimum wage, which would amount to increasing the net salary

".

Resignation from government

In addition, the organizers are calling for "

an audit of state accounts

", "

the suspension of all European directives, the dissolution of the National Assembly, the Senate, the Constitutional Council

", and finally, "

the resignation of the government and its president

”, they indicate on their Facebook page.

Big demands.
