The number of infections is rising and rising, especially younger people are affected.

The schools are suffering from the corona pandemic, but are now dealing with it relatively calmly.

District

– Around a third of the corona cases in the district are currently in the under-18s: the health department reports 828 PCR-positive cases within a week for 0 to 17-year-olds.

Most recently, the authority alone reported 651 daycare children in quarantine – no distinction is made here between illness and precautionary measures.

That is around seven percent of daycare children in total.

More than five percent of all elementary and middle school students, 409 in number, are also sitting at home because of a positive test.

In addition, 258 more as a precautionary measure.

Anyone who reads these numbers easily thinks of a total state of emergency.

A few parents from the district contacted the editors, who could not believe that with these numbers of infections, face-to-face classes and daycare were still taking place.

But a random inquiry at schools in the district reveals a different feeling: serenity.

Parents' Council: It's quiet in parenthood

For example, Lars Moormann, parents' representative at the Kirchseeon high school, says: "It's very quiet in parenting."

With a little luck, the wave is already on the wane, the numbers slowly give hope for that.

"Don't close your eyes and keep going!" warns Moormann.

“But keep your eyes open and move forward calmly.” During sports training and extracurricular events, he is more concerned that his children will be exposed to the virus than at high school.

In the same word as the parents' spokesman, the Kirchseeon director Simone Voit speaks of a "very dynamic event".

There are cases in every grade level.

"It's a burden for the school family," says Voit, underlining the achievements of the teaching staff and secretariat, who showed enormous commitment.

Twice it was necessary to send whole classes home because of isolated outbreaks.

But there are also teachers who use video transmission from the classroom to involve students in quarantine in the lesson.

Pandemic everyday life, but everyday life.

“The students are taken care of,” says the principal.

Ebersberger Headmaster: That's the right approach

Her colleague Alexander Bär from the Ebersberg elementary and middle school says about the classroom teaching that is still taking place: “That is the right approach.” Thanks to the close testing three times a week, the schools are quickly on the trail of infections.

Around three percent of the 740 students are currently corona positive.

In contrast to the panic at the beginning of the pandemic, dealing with the virus is now regulated, yes, well established and is no longer such a burden for the school family. "That's the good side of this madness," says Bär.

"We're doing well at the moment." Also thanks to cooperative and understanding parents: "Big compliments!"

The Ebersberg headmaster observes that the majority of infections take place outside of school, for example in families.

Thanks to masks (“Very important!”), ventilation system and attentive teachers, normal lessons are possible on site.

"Now we live with it," says Andreas Bär dryly.
