The fact that the momentous mix-up had occurred at all was due to "contradictory information about the location of the apartment", as the German Press Agency quoted a police spokeswoman as saying.

The SEK had therefore made a mistake on the floor of the house in Essen (North Rhine-Westphalia).

According to the Bild newspaper, the police officers then threw a tear gas grenade into the 28-year-old student's apartment, then overpowered and tied him up.

However, the error became immediately clear: the young man from Essen (North Rhine-Westphalia) did not correspond to the description of the person that was available to the SEK.

However, this information is of little help to the student from Essen (North Rhine-Westphalia): According to the report, he has been suffering from anxiety and insomnia since the incident on the morning of January 25, 2022 and has now started psychotherapy.

Sanitary workers did not find any injuries immediately after the incident and the door is also to be repaired at the expense of the authorities.

What really annoyed the student was the SEC's apology.

The police commander then fobbed him off with an Amazon voucher worth 50 euros.

A written apology was also given.

He and his lawyer are now demanding compensation from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

A reasonable amount would be in a five-digit range, as the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung reports with reference to the lawyer.

The SEK had arrested the right suspect after all.
