The landslide recorded this Tuesday in the La Esneda neighborhood, on the border between Dosquebradas and Pereira, has so far left 16 dead and 36 injured, the National Civil Defense Unit reported on Twitter on Wednesday.
Through a tweet, President Iván Duque lamented the event and pointed out that relief teams from the department of Risaralda are responding to the emergency.
“I have requested the entire @UNGRD team to be on standby to intervene when required.
My deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and my accompaniment to the people of Risaraldense in this difficult moment.
We are with you," the president wrote.
The Minister of Defense, Diego Molano, also reported on Twitter that the security and Civil Defense forces provide their support to the authorities of the department with humanitarian work for the benefit of those affected.
Earlier, Governor Víctor Manuel Tamayo reported on Twitter that the collapse occurred in the La Esneda neighborhood.
In the face of the emergency, he pointed out that he ordered the Risk Management Directorate to provide support to the rescue forces that work in the area.
