Poing – The Rot-Weiß Poing tennis club is getting a new tennis court.

The main and finance committee of the Poing municipal council unanimously approved this at its meeting on Tuesday evening.

The municipality supports the construction with 60,000 euros.

The club had previously submitted a grant application to the community, the first in its history (the tennis club was founded in 1973), as chairman Jochen Bunzel writes.

The club has submitted an offer for the construction of the tennis court in the amount of almost 64,000 euros.

Poing: Tennis club submits application for a grant for the first time

Mayor Thomas Stark announced at the committee meeting that the square will be built on the same area where the new pump track facility will also be built.

The property is located between the building yard and the railway embankment, and the municipality has leased it from Deutsche Bahn for ten years.

The new sand court is being built a stone's throw from the tennis facility, behind it (to the east) the pump track for mountain bikers.

This facility is particularly an offer for young people.

There are six tennis courts on the TC Rot-Weiss club complex.

In view of the high number of members, this is far too few, says Chairman Jochen Bunzel in the letter of application.

In the past eight years, the number of members has risen from 267 to 550 - in particular because the club has "realigned itself strongly towards popular sports and families".

The membership fees are correspondingly low, but the offers are correspondingly attractive and diverse.

According to Bunzel, the TC Rot-Weiss now has "a significantly higher proportion of children and young people than the clubs in the area with 50 percent".

At the committee meeting, representatives of all factions expressly praised this work with children and young people.

Tennisclub Poing has 550 members

According to Bunzel, 190 of the more than 230 children and young people are in youth training, and among the adults there are around 90 beginners, hobby players and team players who are being trained.

The club registered 16 youth and adult teams last year.

Then there are the members who only want to play as a hobby player on one of the six courts - as long as they are free.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.)

According to chairman Jochen Bunzel, the large number of active players means that training can no longer be offered as usual.

Since 2020, youth training has also been taking place in Anzing, where parents have to drive their children to.

"Actually," says Bunzel, "a club the size of TC Rot-Weiss should have twelve tennis courts instead of six."

The new, additional space should at least make it possible for youth training sessions to no longer have to be carried out in Anzing.

For the team training of the adults, on the other hand, places in Anzing would still have to be rented.

In addition, the new tennis court makes it possible to register further youth teams in the game.

Municipality of Poing finances 60,000 euros

The club cannot finance the new building from its own financial resources, the tennis board explains in the application letter.

In the past twelve months, the club has almost used up its reserves due to urgently needed special measures.

A total of 79,700 euros was spent: for the replacement of the 30-year-old and dilapidated sprinkler system, for the construction of floodlights in squares 4 and 5, for the construction of new bicycle racks and for the renovation of squares 4 and 5.
