Starnberg – There is usually a lot going on around Lake Starnberg in the fifth season.

There is dancing and partying and the fools slip into colorful costumes.

This year, however, many balls and parades have to be canceled again due to the pandemic.

In order to conjure up a smile on the reader's face for a brief moment, Kreisbote Starnberg publishes carnival photos and stories from well-known people.

Today from Starnberg's Mayor Patrick Janik.

In May 2020, the native of Starnberg took over the mayor's office in the city.

Shortly before taking office, when there were still no contact restrictions, he was able to witness in the Schlossberghalle how the former District Administrator Karl Roth was awarded the Water Lily Order of the Starnberg Carnival Society Perchalla.

After that there were hardly any public events.

There will probably be no more carnival events in the district this season either.

The red nose is mandatory for Mayor Janik during carnival

What remains for now are the good memories.

At the carnival in childhood, for example.

For example the paint box that Patrick Janik won at the TSV Starnberg children's carnival.

The prize was preceded by a painting competition in which the aim was to color in the contours of a clown and to give the character as original an appearance as possible.

"Obviously, I did well," says Janik with a smile, because his work of art brought him third place and a prize with the placement.

Incidentally, the clown is also the costume that Starnberg's mayor likes to slip into in the fifth season.

"I actually have a penchant for clowning," he confirms.

"At least the red nose is mandatory."

With a decent costume for carnival

In the years that Patrick Janik worked as a lawyer in the center of Munich, it always harmonized well with his suit, he assures with a wink.

In this station wagon he threw himself into the hustle and bustle at the Stachus on Shrove Tuesday and treated himself to a free afternoon.

Working was not possible anyway due to the noise level, Janik recalls.

Because every year at the Stachus, a radio station loudly provided a program and atmosphere on a stage.

His stories about personal carnival experiences describe that Janik is "rather a friend of discreet costumes", but "not a carnival muffle", as he expressly emphasizes.

That was hardly possible as a child of a mother who came from the carnival stronghold of Düsseldorf.

"There are few inhibitions." But the mayor doesn't go to balls.

Which has to do with the fact that he is "not an outstanding dancer".

On the other hand, Janik likes to mingle with the fools at the carnival parties.

The daughter is still too small for the carnival party

Janik jokes that it's still too early to go to carnival events with the family.

The daughter is only six months old.

And in fact, even when he had no children and before the corona pandemic, he had not yet celebrated carnival with his wife Isabelle.

But he knows that his wife used to travel a lot in the fifth season - photos in the former student's album bear witness to this.

Recordings from the Biedersteiner carnival in Munich-Schwabing are also among them, reveals Janik.

And how is carnival celebrated in the town hall?

At the Jour Fixe of the heads of departments, there were always donuts for all participants during the carnival season last year.

This year - with the online meeting - this is not possible.

But the town hall remains closed on Shrove Tuesday and the employees are given the day off - so even in times of the pandemic a reason to look forward to the end of the carnival.
