Mexican journalists fire Lourdes Maldonado 1:31

Three people have been arrested for the murder of Mexican journalist Lourdes Maldonado, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced Wednesday at his daily press conference.
Maldonado was murdered in the Santa Fe neighborhood of Tijuana, Baja California, on January 23, 2022. According to a previous statement from the Baja California Attorney General's Office, Maldonado was found shot to death in a car.

"Progress has been made in clarifying this crime, it was a joint effort by the federal government and the essential participation of the government of the state of Baja California," López Obrador said during the conference.
"We are going to report and we are going to be reporting on other cases; the difference now with respect to previous governments is that impunity is not allowed."
"Each piece of evidence has been followed up on time, which allowed an arrest warrant to be issued and acts of persecution, as well as requesting search warrants from the control judge," Security Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez said on Wednesday.
The arrests come after an increase in violence against journalists across Mexico.

During a press conference in 2019, Maldonado told the Mexican president that he feared for his life and asked for "support, help and labor justice."
The non-profit organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF) reported that Mexico remains one of the most dangerous and deadly countries in the world for the media.
Despite some limited progress in recent times, the country continues to sink into a spiral of violence and impunity, according to RSF.
