"gravely concerned about the unconstitutional change of government in Burkina Faso on January 24"

A previous version of the statement, obtained by AFP, called on the junta

In the declaration adopted, the Council says it is

"concerned by the negative impact of unconstitutional changes of government in the region"

Council members also express

“their support for regional mediation efforts”

to resolve the crisis in Burkina Faso.

A joint mission of representatives of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the UN office for West Africa was recently organized in the country.

The council statement

“calls for the release and protection of President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré and other government officials”
