At a Texas airport, a couple found out their luggage was overweight.

When they wanted to repack their suitcase, a “stowaway” came out.

There's always a surprise in store for a trip to Las Vegas, but for Kristi and Jared Owens, the adventure began at the Texas airport.

Because just as the couple wanted to check in their luggage at the airport, a Southwest Airlines employee pointed out that it was almost 3 kilos overweight.

When the two wanted to rearrange their utensils, they finally made a surprising discovery.

"You know it's going to be an epic trip to Vegas when you're checking in at the airport - six pounds overweight -

and suddenly a chihuahua jumps out of your boot

!" Jared Owens later reported on Facebook.

The dog was her pet Icky - apparently the chihuahua had settled into one of Jared's cowboy boots before packing.

"She didn't make a peep, not a single sound.

We had no idea and as soon as we opened the suitcase, she crawled out," Krisit told

.

"It was like we woke her up and her reaction was, 'What are you all doing here?'" Jared added.

Since then, numerous English-language media such as

That's probably why no one noticed earlier that Icky had disappeared, even though Kristi's mother was supposed to be looking after her.

"My first thought was that the staff might think we were trying to smuggle a dog in," Jared said, according to

.

Instead, Southwest Airlines employee Cathy Cook offered to babysit their dog while they flew to Vegas.

Ultimately, however, Icky was picked up by a relative and taken to Kristi's mother.

"She was back home safely about half an hour later," Kristi reported.

The couple was finally able to board their flight to Las Vegas.
