He was an impressive personality: well into old age, with a full head of white hair and sparkling blue eyes surrounded by many laugh lines.

Mammendorf – Horst Frank was a philanthropist who radiated warmth.

cosmopolitan, approachable, humorous, but also very disciplined.

Especially when it came to his favorite pastimes: smacking Goassl, shooting air rifles and pistols, and stick shooting.

Goassl smacking

Horst Frank was born in Munich in January 1943.

At the age of 14 he began an agricultural apprenticeship near Bad Tölz.

A step that would be decisive for his further life.

Not only because farming never let him go, but because he got to know how to snap goats in the Oberland;

a custom that has tradition in some Alpine regions, but also in the Bavarian Forest, the home of his wife Hiltraud.

In Bad Tölz, the whip swingers can be seen and heard at the Leonhardi ride.

Neither his children Andrea Pfeilschifter and Thomas Frank nor his snapping friends Hanspeter Brandl, Johannes Hillebrand and Richard Negele know whether Horst Frank immediately learned how to click or whether he later taught himself to do so.

After graduating from the agricultural engineering school and completing his military service with the Federal Border Police, Horst Frank specialized in insemination procedures for cattle.

From 1970 he found a home with his wife and children in Mammendorf.

On behalf of the veterinarian Dr.

Hans Drexl and his successor Dr.

Florian Maier took care of Horst Frank's offspring at the dairy and beef cattle farms throughout the region.

And used the contacts to get young people excited about Goasslschnalzen.

In this way he also got to know Johannes Hillebrand from Luttenwang.

Frank imported the Goaßlschnalzen, so to speak, into the Brucker Land, raised a troupe here that then became known nationwide.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular FFB newsletter.

The Mammendorfer and Luttenwanger Goasslschnalzer were regular guests at big events.

In South Tyrol, the Frank crew even won bronze at an international competition.

The stick shooters

Horst Frank was also involved with the Nannhofen rifle club "Grüne Eiche", for which he was active for almost half a century.

Frank acted as a flag cadet for 17 years and was also committed to promoting young people here.

The passionate shooter received numerous awards, including the Protectorate Badge, the Golden Badge of the Schützengau and the Silver Chamois of the Bavarian Sports Shooting Association.

Two years ago, the association made Horst Frank an honorary member.

At the age of 70, the man from Mammendorf became enthusiastic about another sport: curling.

In the stock shooter department of SV Mammendorf, he lent a hand when the need arose.

As always and everywhere.

Despite all professional and voluntary commitments, the family remained the center of his life, his wife Traudl his mainstay.

In 2014, the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Traudl Frank passed away on May 24, 2021.

Horst Frank passed away on January 14th, four days after his 79th birthday, after a short, serious illness.

The funeral service will take place on February 11, 9 a.m. in St. Jakob in Mammendorf.
