Russian Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov and Italian Luigi Di Maio discussed in a telephone conversation today the Russian proposals for security guarantees in Europe.
A statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry, according to what Russia Today reported, said, "Lavrov briefed his Italian counterpart on the Russian assessments of the responses of NATO and the United States to the proposals submitted by Russia on legally binding agreements in the security field."
The two ministers discussed the situation in eastern Ukraine, where Lavrov referred to the destabilizing actions of NATO, which are related to its activities of military deployment in the former Soviet sphere and the militarization of Ukraine practiced by some Western countries.
Lavrov stressed the need to demand that Kiev fully abide by the Minsk agreements, the Normandy Quartet and the Tripartite Contact Group.
The two sides affirmed their determination to continue constructive dialogue and develop mutually beneficial cooperation in key areas between the two sides.
