Russia's Director of Foreign Intelligence Sergey Naryshkin stressed that Russia's reciprocity with the sanctions imposed by the United States is entirely legitimate because it is in accordance with the basic rules of the United Nations Charter and represents a form of protection against the illegal aggressive activities of other countries.

In an interview with the Russian newspaper (Moskovsky Komsomolets) today, Naryshkin indicated that the policy of sanctions pursued by Western countries with regard to Russia, China, Venezuela and other countries can only be explained as a geopolitical weapon of pressure, explaining that “these alleged sanctions are in fact acts of economic aggression aimed at bringing about changes in the Other countries’ policies in their favour, economic harm and restriction of social and economic development under the guise of competitiveness.”

And the United States recently announced that it will impose more sanctions on Russian figures and entities under the pretext of allegations that Russia intends to invade Ukraine.

In addition, Naryshkin revealed that the Ukrainian authorities are preparing to launch a large-scale war in the Donbass, indicating that various units of the Ukrainian army have gathered on the line of contact.

"The preparations are in full swing and cannot be hidden, and it is clearly noted that there is an extensive transfer of military equipment and ammunition from US bases in Europe and from Britain and Canada to Ukraine, and the group of advisers and trainers is increasing," Naryshkin said.

Naryshkin pointed out that the Ukrainian security service and armed forces are preparing for provocations along the demarcation line in Donbass, stressing that it is not in the interests of the peoples of Ukraine and Russia to ignite the flames of war because the consequences of the conflict will be difficult for all participants in it.

On the situation in Kazakhstan, Naryshkin explained that what happened at the beginning of the year of unrest in this country was caused by (subversive forces) aiming to introduce the militants of the terrorist organization (ISIS) and other terrorist groups to the Central Asian countries.

Naryshkin considered that the steps taken by the CSTO countries towards Kazakhstan showed for the first time that "the existence of a common political will among the leaders and the adoption of quick and responsible decisions allow controlling unrest and terrorist attacks and putting an end to them."

It is noteworthy that the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is a political-military alliance that emerged in 2002 from the Collective Security Treaty concluded in 1992 and includes the Russian Federation, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.
