After the deadly shots at two police officers in Kusel, more dramatic details of the fateful night are now coming to light.

Kusel - About a week after the fatal shots at two police officers in Kusel, the inspector of the Rhineland-Palatinate police, Jürgen Schmitt, confirmed new dramatic details in the state parliament's interior committee.

On Tuesday, February 8, 2022, Schmitt explained, among other things, why reinforcements for the two police officers only came twelve minutes after their radio call for help.

Schmitt reported that police patrols that were sent to a crime scene where it was known that shooting had taken place first had to stop to put on protective equipment.

These included, among other things, heavy protective helmets and vests and also submachine guns.

"This leads to a certain time delay," explained the inspector.

The fatal operation took place in the early morning of January 31 at around 4:20 a.m.

The two police officers had checked a vehicle on a district road near Kusel.

They had initially reported on the radio about "dubious people", and the two officers had discovered numerous dead wild animals in the trunk of the car.

While the 24-year-old wanted to record the personal details of the two men, she was shot in the head at close range.

Her 29-year-old colleague called for reinforcements, he called for help with the words: "Come quickly, they're shooting, they're shooting".

When the requested reinforcements reached the scene minutes later, the 24-year-old was already lifeless.

The 29-year-old chief inspector was no longer responsive, he succumbed to his severe injuries at the scene.

As Inspector Schmitt explained further on Tuesday, other patrols were at the crime scene at 4:32 a.m.

The two officers were therefore uniformed in a civilian police car.

According to Schmitt, they observed a person with the crews of two other police cars.

According to earlier information from the police, the aim was to solve a series of property crimes.

The two initially unknown perpetrators immediately left the scene.

Two suspects were arrested on the same day, a 38-year-old and a 32-year-old from Saarland.

Investigators believe the two committed the crime together to cover up their poaching activities.

The SPD MP Michael Hüttner said in the committee that twelve minutes could be infinitely long in such situations.

This shows how important it is to have enough police forces who can back up if necessary.

The country is on the right track thanks to the increase in the police force.
