An Ontario court ordered Friday the lifting of the blockade by protesters of the border bridge that connects Ontario, Canada, with Detroit, in the United States, announced the mayor of Windsor, Drew Dikens.

“The injunction is granted.

The judge ruled that the protesters must leave before 7:00 p.m. (local time), "Mayor Dikens wrote on his Twitter account. The bridge, one of the main border crossings between the two countries, has been closed since Monday, which has affected the automotive industry.

The protest of hundreds of Canadian truck drivers against the mandatory vaccination against covid-19 for cross-border trips that keeps the capital, Ottawa, semi-paralyzed, has spread since the beginning of this week to the main border crossing with the United States, after having caught fire in other cities of Canada, such as Toronto and Quebec.

Thousands of kilometers away, in New Zealand, Australia or France, radical and anti-vaccine groups have shown their solidarity with the mobilization of the Canadian transport sector and have reproduced the same protests in Wellington and Canberra.

The blockade suffered by the Canadian capital, which has already led to the arrest of more than 20 people, according to official sources, has been amplified in recent days.

Trucks and vans from the so-called

freedom caravan have

been blocking the main border crossing between Canada and the United States since Monday.

Canada sends 75% of its exports to the United States, and an average of 8,000 trucks cross this border crossing every day, about 765 kilometers from Ottawa.

More than 40,000 people and goods worth 323 million dollars (282 million euros) pass through it every day.

Despite the partial reopening on the Canadian side, the crossing is still blocked because the Michigan Department of Transportation keeps the US border closed.
