Torres always shared with his followers on the networks the evolution of his precarious state of health.
In November 2021, he warned of the worsening of his illness, when his doctors told him that he only had two months to live.
In 1996, at the age of 27, Isabel Torres became the first transsexual woman in the Canary Islands to adapt her DNI to her gender identity, thanks to the recognition of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands and without the need to go to the Supreme Court.
She made history again in 2005, by being the first transsexual woman to be a candidate for queen of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Carnival.
Since July 2021 she is the favorite daughter of that city.
In cinema, she participated in
Fotos
(1996), the first film by filmmaker and writer Elio Quiroga and in
8 años
(2021), by José David Martínez Alcázar, while on television she was a presenter in 2010 on Antena 3 Canarias.
But she was her with
Veneno
, by Atresplayer Premium and released in several countries through HBO Max, with which she gained international fame.
She found out that she was sick shortly after landing the role she had hoped her whole life for.
“I could die at any moment”, she recalled in an interview with this newspaper, with the series already on air.
The importance of the project for the group was what motivated her to continue her fight and complete the shooting.
Thanks to this work, she won the Ondas Award for best female performer in October 2020, which she shared with Jedet and Daniela Santiago, the other two transsexual actresses who played La Veneno.
The delivery of the award was postponed until the following year due to the pandemic, so Torres could not go to Barcelona to collect it due to her health problems.
She did it a few weeks ago, during one of her last television appearances, on the set of the
Saturday Deluxe
program in which she said goodbye to the audience.
The Madrid deputy and transsexual activist Carla Antonelli, the Film Academy, the Union of Actors and Actresses, the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, have lamented the death of Torres through social networks .
So has Suma Content, the producer of Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi.
