Etna: Several lava flows flow into the valley

The first lava fountain from the southeast crater was observed around 8:51 p.m. on Thursday evening.

Then a total of three lava flows rolled down the mountain, tweeted the Italian L'Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV).

In addition to ash and gases, the institute warned of dangerous rock fragments - pyroclastic material.

The crater area is at an altitude of about 2,900 to 3,000 meters above sea level.

The INGV has issued a red alert flight warning due to the current activity.

However, the volcanic eruption has had no impact on Catania Airport.

Operations continue as normal there.

In the meantime the lava fountain has gone out.

The eruption cloud, which is about eight kilometers high and emanates from the crater, has spread over the western sector of the volcano, reports the Italian news agency
