February shows its beautiful side: the sun gives us a foretaste of spring!

And how good is this beautiful weather after the exhausting pandemic weeks!

Here you can see some easy hikes in and around Munich with places to stop for refreshments.

Let's go into February spring - towards the sun!

Ohlstadt near the Staffelsee

The snow glistens beautifully in the February sun on a hike near the Murnauer Moos near the Staffelsee.

On the outskirts of Ohlstadt on the Breitenweg you can even watch emus (ratites from Australia)!

The almost two-hour long Weichser Rundweg is beautiful.

Park in the center of Ohlstadt, then take Weichser Straße to the hamlet of Weichs.

You walk past the church and the Haarsee.

After a piece of forest, a wonderful view of the Wetterstein Mountains awaits you on open terrain.

From there back to Ohlstadt.

Information about the bars in Ohlstadt can be found at: www.ohlstadt.de

Irschenberg

If you want to enjoy this view of the snow-covered Wendelstein from the Irschenberg, like the gentlemen in our picture, you can start in the village of Irschenberg.

From the Church of St. Johann Baptist on Miesbacher Straße, then on the observation trail, further on Wölkhamer Weg - after about ten minutes you are at the Irschenberg vantage point with the bench.

Also nice: a visit to the Wilparting pilgrimage church, just a few minutes' drive away south of the A8, one of the most photographed places of worship in Bavaria (Tel. Pfarrverband Irschenberg: 080 62/80 93 90).

Afterwards, a coffee tastes good in Café Dinzler on Irschenberg, Tel. 08025/ 99 22 50, (www.dinzler.de/irschenberg)

Walchensee

The water in the Walchensee shimmers green and turquoise – Bavarian Caribbean!

The tour around the whole lake is 27 kilometers long.

There is an approximately one and a half hour circular route around the Zwergern peninsula on the western shore.

The start is at the parking lot in the district of Einsiedl, from there you follow the path in the direction of Zwergern.

You can see the small church of St. Margareth, built in 1344.

The way back leads past the Klösterl Walchensee, today a youth education center - here you have a beautiful view of the Herzogstand.

You can fortify yourself in the Gasthaus-Café Seestüberl, Seestr.

62, Tel. 08858 / 92 99 47. Open: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (www.seestueberl.de).

Ilkahöhe

It is named after Princess Ilka von Wrede (1838-1913), who took care of the wounded in the war of 1870/71.

The Ilkahöhe is known for its panoramic view of Lake Starnberg and the Bavarian Alps.

The easy hike to the 726 meter high elevation starts at Tutzing train station (S-Bahn line 6) and takes around 2.5 hours.

Follow the Beringerweg, the Himbeerweg, the Am Höhenberg road in the direction of the forest.

Left at the hiking car park.

There are delicacies in the Forsthaus Ilkahöhe, Oberzeismering 2, open from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. (kitchen until 8.30 p.m.), reservations on Tel. 0 81 58/ 82 42 (info@restaurant-ilkahoehe.de)

Tegernsee Höhenweg

An easy pleasure tour past the sparkling water: that is the Tegernsee Höhenweg.

It takes a good one and a half hours from Gmund to Tegernsee.

You can take the Bavarian Oberlandbahn to Gmund or drive by car and park at the hiking car park in the Gasse district.

From there you continue in the direction of Ober- and Unterbuchberg, then you hike along the Höhenweg via Sankt Quirin to Tegernsee.

Afterwards it tastes good in the Herzogliches Bräustüberl, open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (braustuberl.de), Schlossplatz 1, Tegernsee.

You can take the Bavarian Regiobahn or a taxi back to Gmund.

Municipal tree nursery Bischweiler

Even if no roses or lilacs are blooming yet - the more than 120-year-old municipal tree nursery in Bischweiler with its themed gardens is a wonderful place to enjoy the sun in the middle of the city!

The entrance fee for the oasis on Sachsenstr.

8 is free.

Open: Mon to Fri 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sat/Sun/holidays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

To reach with the U1 or U2 to Kolumbusplatz or bus 58, stop Claude-Lorrain-Straße.

If you're hungry afterwards: Off to the nearby cult Greek Lucullus, Birkenau 31, open Saturday from 5 p.m., Sunday from 12 p.m., Tel. 089 / 66 29 51 (lucullus-muenchen.de)

Landscape Park Hachinger Tal

Inline skating, cycling, scooter riding, kite surfing, kite flying or a leisurely stroll - all this is possible on the two-kilometre-long runway in the Hachinger Tal landscape park.

There are no cars on the site of the former Neubiberg air base.

Instead, there is a dog mile at the edge of the park between Neubiberg, Ottobrunn and Unterhaching, where four-legged friends are allowed to run free.

It is a ten-minute walk from the Neubiberg train station (S7).

There is parking for cars at the Neubiberg cemetery.

You can enjoy home-baked cakes and lunch dishes in the “Favoritplatz” café (Hauptstraße 14, Neubiberg).

Open on weekends from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. (www.lieblingsplatz.me).

Munich pleasure places

Sun on her face, right on the venerable Odeonsplatz and a glass of champagne in her hand - Maria Hingerl (34, photo) from Munich is completely enchanted.

"The sun's rays are like medicine - simply good for the mind." She is sitting on the terrace of the brand new "Organic Garden Eatery in the Studio Odeonsplatz by Mercedes-Benz", the latest restaurant by star chef Holger Stromberg at Brienner Straße 1. Since the beginning of January you can guests can dine healthy and tasty here: from toasted muesli and vegetable wraps to farmer's toast with plant-based chicken.

Everything predominantly organic, regional and seasonal and full of nutrients.

Eat soft ice cream and save bananas at the same time - that's possible in the new Keep Banana in the walls of the Sendlinger Tor (Sendlinger Str. 49).

Markus Mayr (33) and his brother have an ice cream shop here with a unique concept.

"Since more and more bananas are thrown away these days, as soon as they're not just a little brownish, we pick them up from the retailer at the wholesale market and use them to prepare our ice cream." And that's also healthy: vegan, sugar-free and waste-free.

It's just bananas, oat milk, dates, and water—and even the spoon is edible.

With two toppings (e.g. berries or nuts), the ice cream costs 3.60 euros.

And it tastes good too!
