According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, a Russian invasion of Ukraine is possible "at any time".

"We are in a window where an invasion could begin at any time," Blinken said during a visit to Australia.

Russia continues to mobilize its troops.

"To be clear, that includes the period during the Olympics," Blinken said.

In doing so, he contradicted the assessment of experts who consider a major Russian attack on Ukraine during the Winter Olympics in Beijing, which will last until February 20, to be unlikely.

According to Western sources, Russia has massed more than 100,000 soldiers on the border with Ukraine in recent months.

Moscow is continuing to mobilize troops there.

A Belarusian-Russian military maneuver that began near the Ukrainian border in Belarus on Thursday is fueling additional fears in the West.

According to the United States, Russia has transferred 30,000 soldiers to Belarus for the ten-day military exercises.

It is the largest maneuver since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The Russian Navy also brought other ships into the Black Sea.

In response, the Ukrainian military also launched ten-day maneuvers on Thursday.

According to the US Department of Defense, US Chief of Staff Mark Milley called his Belarusian colleague Viktor Gulevich on Thursday to reduce the risk of "misjudgments" against the background of the military maneuvers.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also spoke of a dangerous moment for European security.

"The number of Russian troops is increasing - the warning times for a possible attack are becoming shorter." Last week he said that Russia had now brought around 30,000 soldiers to Belarus, which borders northern Ukraine.

In addition, SU-35 fighter jets, S-400 air defense systems and Iskander missiles that can be equipped with nuclear weapons were also transported to Belarus.
