"It's a world war when Americans and Russians start shooting at each other," US President Joe Biden said in an interview.

US citizens should leave Ukraine.

Washington - The situation in the Ukraine crisis remains tense.

In view of the conflict with Russia, US President Joe Biden* has sharpened the tone.

He urged American citizens to leave Ukraine.

If there were to be a Russian invasion, an evacuation operation using US troops would be unthinkable.

Ukraine crisis: Biden speaks of world war – US citizens should “now” leave the country

"It's a world war when Americans and Russians start shooting at each other," Biden told

NBC

television in an interview on Thursday (February 10).

US citizens should "now" leave the country, the President demanded.

Referring to the Russian armed forces, he added: "It's not like we're dealing with a terrorist organization." Rather, it's about "one of the largest armies in the world."

After the Taliban took power in Afghanistan*, US troops conducted a large-scale evacuation operation last year, for the preparation and execution of which Biden's government was criticized from many sides.

Biden: "Things could quickly get out of hand"

Referring to the situation in Ukraine*, Biden said in the interview: "It's a very different situation and things could quickly get out of hand." Even if Putin were "stupid" enough to let his army invade Ukraine , he is "smart enough" not to harm US citizens, according to Biden.

The US military has deployed troops in Poland and Romania, neighboring Ukraine.

When asked on Wednesday, Defense Ministry spokesman John Kirby did not rule out that US soldiers on Polish territory would also help with possible evacuations.

However, there are currently no efforts to get Americans out of Ukraine with the help of the military.

"There are many ways to get out of Ukraine," Kirby said.

The USA * advise against traveling to Ukraine, pointing out, among other things, an “increasing threat from Russian military action” and asking US citizens to leave the country.

The US government has also reduced its diplomatic presence there.

Will Russian troops really invade Ukraine?

Such an escalation would have unpleasant consequences for Russia - and Germany.
