Freising can be so beautiful: Three photo motifs show the cathedral city in a great light - and have now been awarded.

The FT presents motifs and photographers.

Freising

– The illuminated lantern of a popular student pub, a fiery sunset over Marienplatz and Italian flair in an alley in the old town: these three photo motifs made it onto the podium in the “My favorite place in Freising” competition.

City press spokeswoman Christl Steinhart finally sheds light on the competition again and lets those responsible have their say.

27 contributions were submitted

"On the occasion of its 50th anniversary in 2021, the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (HSWT) and the city of Freising called for the #lieblingsortfreising photo challenge.

A total of 27 contributions were shown as part of the competition.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

HSWT Chancellor Dr.

Karla Sichelschmidt and Lord Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher comment on the atmospheric views with equal enthusiasm: 'A variety of places and corners worth seeing were captured, which invite you to visit, linger or even rediscover.'

The motives are very diverse

All seasons and a wide variety of places in the city were represented in the photos that were presented on the Instagram accounts of HSWT and the city of Freising as well as on Facebook last year.

The ranking was based on the number of likes given by the community by December 30, 2021.

In view of the successful staging of the favorite places, the choice was obviously not easy.

The silhouettes of buildings around Marienplatz staged by Huang Qi in the fiery sunset took second place.

From the perennial viewing garden in winter dress and a view over the snow-covered roofs of the Domberg to the park-like courtyard garden - snow-covered just like in the spring awakening, with blooming summer flowers or bathed in autumn morning mist a real attraction - and nature shots from the campus, on Moosach and Isar or the Stoibermühle bathing lake to city views with the parish church of St. George, cathedral towers and old town streets: the range of favorite places is large and varied.

Freising is valued as a place to study

'The participating university members also underline that Freising offers them an excellent environment for learning and living', says HSWT Chancellor Dr.

Karla Sichelschmidt.

From Mayor Tobias Eschenbacher's point of view, the competition confirmed 'that students and university members identify with Freising very quickly and appreciate it as a place to study'.

According to the mayor, the competition also offers suggestions for discovering favorite places and other beautiful corners of Freising.

Most popular motifs available as postcards

In the voting, Jonas Leiting was clearly ahead with 955 votes (motif: illuminated lantern on the Furtnerbräu facade on Obere Hauptstraße).

Second place goes to Huang Qi (building silhouettes on Marienplatz in the fiery sunset) with 902 votes, Lisa Ziegltrum (“Am Wörth” alley with reflections in the Moosach) can be happy about third place with 780 votes.

Third place went to Lisa Ziegltrum, who feels "like in Italy" in the street "Am Wörth" with the colorful houses and the Moosach.

These and three other photos were printed as postcards and can now be taken free of charge at the following locations: Freising Tourist Information (Rindermarkt 20), City Library (Weizengasse 3), University Community (Hohenbachernstraße 9) and Weihenstephan Central Library (Am Hofgarten 2).

Attractive prizes for the winners

Furthermore, the participants receive attractive prizes such as vouchers for the Fresch adventure swimming pool in Freising, shopping vouchers for Aktive City Freising, great merchandise products from the HSWT (backpack, thermal mugs, T-shirts), vouchers for guided tours of the old town (groups of up to 15 people each) and for cultural events.

The winners will be notified directly."
