An arson attack occurred in Cheung Sha Wan, affecting four vehicles, and the pre-war tenement building, a "Class II historic building", was damaged.
At about 4:35 in the morning today (12th), at the junction of No. 301 and 303 Castle Peak Road and Faxiang Street, a styrofoam box and other debris burst into flames on the roadside. The fire was violent and immediately spread to 2 private cars and 1 roadside. A taxi and a close-packed lorry, a large amount of smoke also attacked the tenement building on the site.
Firefighters used a hose and a team of smoke hats to put out the fire quickly, and no one was injured in the incident.
Police officers arrived at the scene, and firefighters arrived to put out the fire. Initial investigations believed that the fire was not suspicious. The case was classified as a fire and handed over to Sham Shui Po District Criminal Investigation Team No. 8 to follow up. No arrests have been made so far.
After the fire, the affected 4 vehicles were damaged to varying degrees, of which 2 private cars and 1 taxi were almost destroyed; the damage to the truck was relatively minor.
The outer walls of the tenement building on the upper site were completely blackened, and the ceilings, beams and pillars, light box signs and street signs at the bottom of the arcade were all severely burned, and a large pile of debris that had been turned to ashes was left on the ground.

According to the information, the single pre-war tenement building at the junction of No. 301 and 303 Castle Peak Road and Faxiang Street was built in 1933 and was rated as a "Class II Historic Building" in June 2019.
The 3-storey tenement building is one of the only pre-war curved corner tenement buildings in Hong Kong. The outer wall at the junction of the street is designed with rounded corners. The whole building facing the street is supported by 6 beams and columns to support the terrace. The balcony retains the characteristic railings, and the window frame is an old-fashioned design.
It is understood that there are only 3 pre-war tenement buildings at such isolated corners in Hong Kong. In addition to the above site, the other two are "Lei Sang Chun" at the junction of Lai Chi Kok Road and Tong Mei Road, Prince Edward, and Ru Chau, Sham Shui Po. 269 and 271 Street, the latter two were rated as "Class 1 Historic Building" and "Class 2 Historic Building" respectively.
Some architectural scholars describe this type of tenement building as "fruitful and only remaining"; former members of the Antiquities Advisory Council believe that the tenement building located at the junction of Castle Peak Road and Fat Cheung Street is a "Panda Class" architectural treasure and should be rated as a "Class 1 Historic Building".
