Abortion clinics in liberal US states like this one in California are preparing for an influx of patients from conservative states and expanding their infrastructure.
The background to this is an outstanding decision by the US Supreme Court.
This could result in the individual states again being able to regulate the right to abortion themselves.
A complete ban on abortion would then threaten, especially in republican-dominated states.
Nearly 50 years ago, the Roe vs. Wade landmark ruling enshrined a nationwide right to abortion until the fetus was viable outside the womb.
That could now tip – or at least be tightened, because the state of Mississippi wants to draw the line much earlier.
Jessica Hamilton, Planned Parenthood
"We're preparing for this post-Roe world and preparing to continue to be the safety net for patients from across the country."
And while anti-abortion activists and pro-choice activists continue to take to the streets outside the clinic, as they do across the country, providers in California have already noticed an increase in patients.
In September last year, Texas enacted what is currently the toughest abortion law in the United States.
The number of abortions in Texas has fallen by half.
But some of the patients willing to have an abortion may have visited liberal states.
Jessica Hamilton, Planned Parenthood
“We've seen a slight increase in out-of-state patients entering the health centers. I've seen some patients from Texas."
It remains to be seen how far the constitutional judges will actually go in the end.
Initial statements at least indicated an intensification.
Her verdict is expected this summer.
