Villabé invaded by caravans: the mayor calls for the opening of high-traffic areas

This Saturday, Mayor Karl Dirat (SE) called on the Essonne prefecture to demand the opening of the two high-traffic areas of the department.

In front of the Noz store, in the car park of the Carrefour hypermarket and opposite the Jardiland sign.

In nearly a month, some 160 caravans have taken up residence in Villabé.

Denouncing “a catastrophic health situation”, “illegal connections” and “a loss of customers for businesses”, Mayor Karl Dirat (SE) this Saturday asked the Essonne prefecture to order the reopening of two high traffic areas of the department.

Installed with his family in the parking lot of the Carrefour hypermarket, Jumeau is about to go do some shopping.

"If we're here, it's because we have no choice," he regrets, drawing on his cigarette.

The large passage area of Lisses has been closed since the end of the summer and that of Brétigny-sur-Orge has not reopened either.

“His stepdaughter Sinndel continues:” It is incomprehensible, exclaims the young woman of 20 years.

They create places for us but they don't want us to go on them.

»

“If they reopen the Brétigny area, we leave tonight”

However, this family assures him: if the high-traffic area were reopened, they would settle there immediately.

"We would leave tonight," continues Jumeau.

It would be a service to everyone, to store customers, to us, to the municipalities.

In his speech, the mayor of Villabé first addressed the inhabitants.

“There are three passage areas missing on the territory of the Greater Paris South conurbation, specifies the elected official.

These three areas should see the light of day in Bondoufle, Ris-Orangis and Grigny.

A single site for 24 caravans costs around three million euros… And the State finances only 15,000 per caravan.

If we do the math, that's 360,000 euros.

So we're way off.

Villabé, Saturday February 12, 2002. At the initiative of Mayor Karl Dirat (without label), members of the municipal council and residents met to demand the reopening of high-traffic areas.

Karl Dirat then spoke directly to travellers.

"I ask you not to steal electricity and water," he urged.

We could find a way to charge for consumption by installing construction meters, for example.

And then I am responsible for sanitation, it has to be kept clean.

»

“We agree on water and electricity, replies Jumeau.

But we have no choice.

They let us enter a high traffic area, there will be no more problems.

On the other hand, their opinions differ on cleanliness.

“The cities say that they send their services to clean the parking lot, but that's not true,” he continues.

Here, we do the cleaning.

Look between the caravans, is it dirty?

There's not even a cigarette butt on the ground.

An eviction before the end of the month?

According to our information, the evacuation of caravans parked in the Carrefour car park could take place before the end of the month.

“A legal procedure is in progress, confirm the services of the State.

At the end of this, the prefecture could be seized to lend the assistance of the public force to its execution”.

Asked about the reasons for the closure of the Lisses area, the prefecture invokes "the hunting period and loose ground, not suitable for parking caravans in the winter season".

“Over there, it's mud, confirms Jumeau.

This is a field for the summer, not for the winter.
