But the plan was dropped.

The Weilheim downtown carnival will be completely cancelled.

The Narrhalla also abandons plans for a children's parade.

Weilheim - "Soon Weilheim will belong to the fools again" - that's what the local newspaper said two years ago: Stadtwerke boss Peter Müller and Narrhalla president Josef Wiedemann presented the program for the inner city carnival at the beginning of February.

And that actually took place, despite the first corona cases in Germany.

Now, two years after the start of the pandemic, the hustle and bustle in the pedestrian zone is actually back on the calendar;

after the obligatory break last year.

But: The carnival in the center has been cancelled, completely.

No fun for the little ones

No organized exuberant merriment in the center, that is, on the carnival days at the end of February/beginning of March.

It has long been clear to everyone involved that there will be no big inner-city carnival in times of extremely increasing incidences - even without meetings and discussions beforehand.

But a small parade for the children through the center that Narrhalla boss Wiedemann would have liked to organize and carry out: "so that the youngest Weilheimers can parade through the pedestrian zone in costume and have a little fun." In accordance with the corona situation, there should also be no stalls and no alcohol for them accompanying adults.

But after a conversation in the town hall, Wiedemann had to drop this plan as well.

Narrhalla boss complies with city leaders' request

Mayor Markus Loth: "Unfortunately, something like that doesn't work at the peak of the Omicron wave." The Narrhalla boss "naturally" complied with the wish of the city leaders.

After all, the city has been working together in a spirit of trust for years.

If any carnival celebrations can take place spontaneously somewhere in the district and guard appearances are desired - Wiedemann could help out thanks to his contacts with guards from friendly clubs (the Weilheimers themselves currently have no guard).

The groups are not only in training before the carnival, but throughout the year: "They are all at gunpoint," says the Narrhalla boss.
