The nomination period for the chief executive election starts this Sunday (20th), but the popular candidates who are widely rumored in the political circle are still on hold. Tang Jiahua, a member of the Executive Council and the convener of democratic ideas, made it clear in an exclusive interview with "Hong Kong 01" that he has no intention of holding the chief executive election under the raging epidemic. Doubt, because the whole people focus their firepower to fight the epidemic, it is difficult for candidates to contact the public, which will have a certain impact on the fairness of the election.

He believes that unless the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress makes a special decision, the term of the current government cannot be extended according to the provisions of the Basic Law.

Having been a member of the guild for nearly five years, Tang Jiahua said that not everything can affect governance, but it is not without influence. He believes that after repeated discussions on policies, a more balanced conclusion can be regarded as an achievement.

He emphasized that he is not the only different voice or "lone wolf" within the guild, but due to the lack of transparency of the guild's confidentiality system, the outside world will have great misunderstandings about the guild.

The interview was conducted in early February. Tang Jiahua admitted that he still did not dare to bet on the Chief Executive's battle, emphasizing that he was only expressing his personal opinions. According to the analysis of political ethics, he had a big question in his mind:

If you ask me my thoughts, I think that today, Hong Kong is facing such a severe epidemic, which can be said to be the greatest challenge since the opening of the port. In this situation, we need to work together to defeat the epidemic.

And to hold a fully competitive election, is it really in line with the actual situation?

Is it fair to someone?

Tang Jiahua

Tang Jiahua pointed out that holding elections under the epidemic is very difficult for candidates, election committees, and citizens. At present, the entire government is fighting the epidemic with all its strength, and even Chief Executive Carrie Lam has no time to think about elections.

He lamented that it was a pity that there was no provision in the Basic Law to allow the current government to continue.

Postponing elections worth considering

As for whether it is suitable to hold the chief executive election, he said that "there is no answer" for the time being, but if someone proposes to him whether the election can be postponed, "I think my immediate response will be considered worth considering."

However, he emphasized his understanding of the Basic Law and cannot postpone the election of the chief executive until next year unless the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress makes a special decision to amend the provisions of the Basic Law.

When asked whether it would be feasible to let Lam Cheng be re-elected first and then re-elected, Tang Jiahua, who is Lam Cheng's think tank, said "I don't dare to say it." The re-election was also explained at the time.

However, he hastened to say that he has not considered it carefully, and has not found an answer that satisfies him, so he does not dare to make excessive comments.

Jixin Chief Executives Concentrate on Fighting the Epidemic

Tang Jiahua wrote an article earlier on the ideal conditions for the chief executive. He believes that the most important thing is to restore Hong Kong's vitality, and no longer cause internal division and confrontation, because the most important thing is to do a good job in fighting the epidemic.

Tang Jiahua supported Carrie Lam for re-election last year and praised the current government as being the most open. When asked who is more suitable to be the chief executive, Carrie Lam and Leung Chun-ying, the former chief executive, Tang Jiahua said that he did not dare to judge, emphasizing that everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. unfair.

Tang Jiahua said to himself that he did not consider himself a "lone wolf" among the members of the Executive Council.

A guild member has a "60% sense of accomplishment" in influencing governance

After joining the guild for nearly five years, Tang Jiahua said frankly that in terms of influencing governance, "I can't speak successfully, but I can't speak failure", and gave a sense of achievement of "about 60%".

He pointed out that it is not that he can influence the administration of the government, but it is not that he cannot exert influence. For example, the membership of a guild has a certain influence in the society.

He pointed out that it may not be a good thing if the Chief Executive follows his every word, but it is also an achievement after repeated discussions with everyone to reach a more balanced conclusion.

"If everyone thinks that I am the only different voice in the Executive Council, I think that inference is wrong. I don't think I am a lone wolf."

He believes that many people in the guild have pertinent views, and some people have similar ideas to him, but the lack of transparency in the guild's confidentiality system has caused the outside world to have great misunderstandings about the work and nature of the guild.

Earlier, another guild member, Ye Liu Shuyi, also left a message on social media to counter criticism from netizens that the guild members failed to fight the epidemic.

Out of control, the chief executive battle must be postponed?

Tan Yaozong: The small scale does not need the political circle to propose three plans to handle the chief executive election.

No need to postpone for the time being: the risks are controllable, everyone knows that the scale is good and the small business will be responsible for the failure of the fight against the epidemic?

Ye Liuhuaxi: The government announces measures before consulting the guild
