For a long time, BMW left the market for sporty station wagons to the competition without a fight.
But now the Munich strike back.
Fans react enthusiastically.
Munich – It's a premiere that many BMW fans can look forward to.
For the first time in its history, BMW M GmbH from Garching near Munich will unleash an M3 Touring (G81) on the streets.
About a year ago, a first announcement brought the soul of many brand fans to a boil*.
So far, those who wanted to be sporty and needed a lot of storage space could only go to the competition.
Audi and Mercedes have made good money with the RS4 Avant and the C63 AMG Estate*, respectively.
BMW M3 Touring: Performance initially remains secret
BMW* M is still keeping a low profile on the M3 Touring.
According to information from
Autozeitung
, the new model is expected to be presented in May 2022.
The automaker itself has not yet announced any figures on mileage.
It is only revealed that a six-cylinder M TwinPower Turbo engine is used.
Together with the widened axles, the large air intakes at the front and four exhaust tailpipes at the rear, the M3 Touring should clearly identify its family affiliation.
The vehicle is said to take the "combination of racing-oriented high-performance and suitability for everyday use" to the extreme.
BMW M3 Touring: Sister model provides information on performance data
However, a look at the sister model reveals what to expect from the M3 Touring.
In the M3 Sedan, a three-liter biturbo in-line six-cylinder engine with 480 hp accelerates the vehicle to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds.
The maximum torque should amount to 550 Newton meters.
The M3 Competition goes one step further.
With 510 hp and 650 Newton meters it does 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, with xDrive it is even 3.5 seconds.
The top speed is increased to 290 km/h in conjunction with the optional M Driver's Package.
You can choose between an eight-speed automatic and a six-speed manual transmission.
BMW M3 Touring: First official video published on Instagram
At the beginning of 2022, BMW M published a new video with the M3 Touring on its official Instagram account, in which the sports suit in camouflage colors with drifts draws the number 2022 in the snow.
Like the sedan, the car has a polarizing front kidney grille and the catchy L-shaped rear lights.
There is also no more detailed information on the price of the BMW M3 Touring.
The sedan starts at 83,500 euros.
The Touring model is likely to be slightly higher.
It was only announced in October 2021 that BMW had temporarily stopped deliveries of the M3, the M4 Coupé and the M4 Competition Cabriolet with M xDrive.
To justify the group referred to errors in the main bearing shells that are used in the twin-turbo straight-six.
