The new adaptation of Agatha Christie's novel,
Death on the Nile
, topped the box office in the United States and Canada upon its theatrical release.
The adventure film with Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland climbed to first place in 15 countries, before its release in France, this Wednesday, February 16.
Having caused controversy in Kuwait with the presence of actress Gal Gadot, this feature film, which relates one of the most famous investigations of Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, brought in 12.8 million dollars from Friday to Sunday, according to the figures from specialist firm Exhibitor Relations.
Written in 1937 by the queen of detective novels and already brought to the screen in 1978 with Peter Ustinov and Jane Birkin, the story is this time directed by Kenneth Branagh, who takes on the role of the shrewd investigator, five years after the success of his
