HyperX Quadcast S review: features, compatibility and price

2022-02-14T20:42:32.371Z

HyperX's popular Quadcast S is a great option for anyone who streams, podcasts, and is reasonably priced.

Are you a streamer, podcaster or do you have to make recordings for your work or school?

If your answer was yes, then you know the importance of having a good microphone to do it.

And, although there are a lot of headsets with integrated microphone, they do not have the quality and features necessary to do it professionally.

There are many options and for all budgets, but today we will talk about the popular and striking HyperX QuadCast S.

Does it have what it takes to be your go-to mic?

Here we tell you.

HyperX Quadcast S Design

It has a striking RGB lighting, so the first thing you will think when you see it is that it is for gamers, but it is also perfect for streamers, podcasters and to have good audio during your meetings and even online classes if you want to be listened to. clearest.

The microphone is long and cylindrical.

Its structure is completely metallic and inside it has a layer of foam that acts as a pop filter behind the grille and that works correctly.

HyperX gear comes bolted to a mount that will help prevent external vibrations from affecting your footage.

One negative is that you won't be able to remove it from the mount, so its portability is limited.

If you want to mount it on a microphone arm you can also do it, because an adapter is incorporated inside the box.

Quadcast S: how to use and compatibility

The HyperX Quadcast S is a microphone that connects via USB.

On the back of the microphone is a USB-C input where you plug the cable built into the box to your computer into a USB-A input.

It also features a 3.5mm headphone jack, so you can directly monitor your recording or live stream.

Something very positive is that the cable measures just over a meter, so you will not have to be attached to your equipment to be able to use it.

On the bottom of the QuadCast S is a matte dial that you can turn to adjust the mic gain.

While the top of the device works as a touch-sensitive mute indicator.

You will notice that the microphone is muted because when you press the top the LED lights turn off.

As we already mentioned, the HyperX microphone is a device that connects via USB and is compatible with PC, PS4 and Mac, although you should keep in mind that the free Ngenuity software is only available for Windows.

Why is Ngenuity software important?

If you have a PC, you can download the software, which will allow you to customize the lighting effects of the HyperX QuadCast S. It will also allow you to adjust the volume, monitor the volume of the company's headphones, and indicate which recording pattern is selected, although this you can also see him physically at the microphone.

The software is required if you want to fix with a specific light configuration.

You can choose solid colors, gradients and even turn off the lights completely to avoid distractions in case you are in a work meeting.

In case of not having access to the software, the lighting patterns and colors will change randomly.

recording forms

Although we already told you that you can configure it within Ngenuity, the HyperX Quadcast S has a dial on the back that allows you to switch between the four available polar patterns: cardioid, bidirectional, omnidirectional and stereo.

These settings can be useful for different types of recording.

If you're interviewing someone who's sitting directly in front of you, you'll want to try the bidirectional setup.

This is different from when you're recording a podcast with just your own voice;

in that case, the cardioid configuration is probably the way to go.

And, if you have a larger group of people participating, the ideal is to put the microphone in omnidirectional.

How does the HyperX Quadcast S sound?

I used the HyperX Quadcast S to record a podcast with three people and also to record audio for a group of videos that I then edited and uploaded to social media like TikTok, Instagram, and Kwai.

It is a microphone that records clear audio and has a neutral sloping frequency response that works for low sounds and notes and also to mitigate the effect of proximity if someone is too close.

The QuadCast S records 48kHz/16-bit audio.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of each polar pickup pattern.

Many microphones record noticeably differently when using the omni-directional setting relative to other recording patterns, when recording podcasts with multiple people, but this was not the case with the HyperX QuadCast S.

What could improve?

It is a pretty good microphone for everything I already mentioned.

However, I would have liked it to also have a Bluetooth connection to be able to link it to my cell phone and for the moment of recording for videos on TikTok and Reels to be more direct.

Apart from that, it is a fairly complete and good quality microphone, although I recommend buying a case in case you have to transport it and do it safely.
