The IG Metall in the southwest does not initially commit itself to specific demands for the wage round of the metal and electrical industry in the second half of the year.
Because of the lack of material in some areas and international tensions, you first have to “drive on sight,” said district manager Roman Zitzelsberger on Monday.
However, the focus of the collective bargaining round is on increasing pay as a percentage.
Stuttgart - In the first half of the year, there are also works council elections in the companies.
“Despite the pandemic, many companies have earned well, the workforce now want to see their share.
This expectation is justified,” said Zitzelsberger.
Wages would also have to rise because of rising energy prices.
However, the trade union cannot secure the purchasing power of the employees solely through their wage policy.
"The problems must be solved where they are created."

IG Metall in Baden-Württemberg recorded a 1.8 percent decline in members for the second year in a row during the pandemic.
At the end of 2021, almost 428,000 people were organized in the union.
“Contact in the companies and communication with the employees are made more difficult by Corona.
That cost us members,” said Zitzelsberger.
