Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin renewed his country's rejection of NATO's expansion to the east, warning that this is an "endless and very dangerous" process.
During his meeting with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense Sergei Lavrov and Sergei Shoigu in Moscow, Putin said that he is awaiting comments on the response of Western countries to the proposals on security guarantees sent by Russia to the United States and NATO, explaining that the discussion is about security issues in Europe and the response to Russia's concerns regarding the expansion of Russia. NATO to the east, which is now being done at the expense of the former Soviet republics, including Ukraine.
Putin also supported the continuation of consultations with the West on issues that raise Russian questions in the security field.
For his part, Lavrov explained, in the context of a report he submitted to Putin during the meeting, that the Russian Foreign Ministry prepared a response to the response of the United States and NATO regarding the Russian proposals on security guarantees, noting that the first part of the American response to security guarantees is unsatisfactory, while the second part is more positive and there is an opportunity To reach an agreement with Washington and NATO on the axes of the proposals, pointing out that Moscow is seeking a specific response from each Atlantic country separately.
Lavrov warned at the same time that Russia is not ready to talk endlessly with the United States and NATO on the main security issues that concern it.
Moscow had suggested that the United States and NATO reach stable agreements that would rule out the alliance's advance to the east and the deployment of new weapons very close to Russian territory, while Washington and NATO sent to the Kremlin on February 12 in response to these proposals.
In turn, the Russian Defense Minister said during the meeting: that the US military activity in the Far East of Russia seems "incomprehensible and unjustified", referring in this context to the recent incident with a foreign submarine, likely to be American, that was discovered during the exercises of the Russian war fleet near the Kuril Islands, which was expelled from the islands. Shoigu reviewed the large-scale military exercises that Russia is conducting at the present time, explaining that they are taking place with the participation of all military regions and all Russian war fleets, and some of them have entered their final phase, while other exercises are nearing their end.
On the 10th of this month, Russia and Belarus began joint exercises under the title "The Resilience of the Union 2022", which is scheduled to end on the 20th of the same month.
